bwbuslogoThis week, Blue Water Wave wishes our readers a very, very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

About Blue Water Wave…  BWAT general manager Jim Wilson comments on what’s happening in transit in the Blue Water Area, as well as interesting transit-related developments all around the globe. He observes new challenges, solutions, strategies, trends, and perspectives within the transit industry.

BWAT Offers Safe Rides on New Year’s Eve

hnyBlue Water Area Transit and Radio First joined forces to offer free bus rides on New Year’s Eve through the Safe Ride Program. BWAT buses will offer free rides between 7:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. BWAT will provide free dial-a-ride service in Port Huron, Port Huron Township, Fort Gratiot and Marysville. BWAT suggests that people call (810) 987-7373 in advance to set up their ride home.

I am always glad to report on news from my transit agency. Here’s news about a favorite program of mine. The Safe Ride Program gives us an opportunity to provide lifesaving service and reach out to new potential riders in our community.

We want people who drink on New Year’s Eve to remember that the bus is a safe way home,. Even if you don’t drink, riding the bus home is safe and can be a lot of fun that night.

“We are glad to offer such a wonderful program for our community,” said Linda Bruckner, Blue Water Area Transportation Commission Board chair and Fort Gratiot Township trustee. “It’s a great way to help keep everyone safe.”

The Safe Ride Program is made possible by the support of BWAT and Radio First and these sponsors: Gerry’s Distributing, Freighters Taproom and Eatery, St. Clair Collision and Earl Smith Distributers.

From BWAT and me personally:
Happy New Year!
We wish you a prosperous and successful new year!

‘Til Later,

Jim Wilson,
BWAT General Manager
